Past Learning Reflections
Reflection is thinking for an extended period of time by linking recent experiences to earlier ones in order to promote a more complex and interrelated mental schema. The goal is to develop higher order thinking skills. This section will be devoted to connecting my past learning experiences with what I am currently learning in the Masters in Distance Education Program.
My Overall Course Experience in OMDE 601
Based on my overall experience in this course, I think that I had a really good learning experience. I learned a lot of information about the field of distance education. This field has so many facets involved in its development. The instructor was really nice and hands on with everyone. She encouraged all students to participate in the conference area. The professor presented a variety of questions about different topics each week, and I enjoyed responding to all of them. I can actually relate to many of the topics discussed in the class. I am an adult learner and I am pursing my Masters degree as well. I learned that the field of distance education caters to many adults who are going back to school. Adults have many different obstacles in life such as personal commitments, family obligations, and working full-time. It is hard to balance your professional and personal life at the same time, while going to school and taking care of a family. Younger students who go to traditional colleges, may not face all of the challenges in life because they do not have these types of obligations and commitments. By being able to relate to the information I read and studied about in this class, it helped me to gain a greater appreciation for what I have learned.
